How to get the perfect work/life balance
Have you ever felt like your work is just taking over and your social life is slowly disappearing? We’ve all been there! Working out this balance between work and the rest of your life is incredibly important, and when you let your work completely dominate, it can have a negative impact on your relationships, your happiness and even your health. So, we’ve compiled a list of top tips for how to get this balance just right!
PLAN AHEAD
Experts have found that having a schedule that includes your personal priorities, like date-night with your partner, or even small activities like walking the dog or reading a book are super helpful in making sure you fit these into your busy timetables. Treat them as equally important as your work commitments, and you’ll get them done! Just like you wouldn’t double book your business meetings, don’t let work arrangements clash with your own plans. You go and watch that movie!
LEAVE WORK ON TIME
We know this is easier said than done, but it really is important to switch off from work when the clock strikes hometime. A top tip for helping with this is to make a list at the end of every day of what you need to do when you get into work in the morning, and then you can just shut your laptop and go home. Leaving on time teaches time management as well, so think of it this way – if you know you have the whole night to stay at work, will you really work at the same pace as if you know you need to leave by 6? It is no life to eat sleep and breathe the workplace! Catching up with your family and friends or even just taking time to chill out by yourself is vital for your mental wellbeing.
WHAT ERRANDS?
Now one struggle of the work-life balance is even when you do manage to take some time out for yourself, your time is just consumed by chores chores chores! One way to help this is to consider alternative methods of getting your errands done. Ever ordered your food shopping online? The hour or two that you normally spend travelling to the shops, doing the shopping, travelling home, and unpacking, can be spent relaxing at home with a magazine in front of the TV whilst the food gets delivered to your house, and can bring it all in for you too. GENIUS!
MOVE MOVE MOVE!
Relaxation is key in order to be on top form to get all of your work done. However, exercising is also really great for letting off steam and keeping you happy. Experts have found that exercising can help you feel fresh and alert and give you a boost in energy. So instead of staying late to work because you’ve been unproductive all day, go to the gym in the morning and get those endorphins going and you’ll be alert all day to get those deadlines done by 5! Nailed it.
